Tokyo-born filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (born 6 June 1962) has 45 credits and is known mainly for directing. Many viewers recognize him through Shoplifters (2018), while his other well-known titles include Monster (2023), Like Father, Like Son (2013), Nobody Knows (2004), Our Little Sister (2015), Broker (2022), After the Storm (2016) and The Third Murder (2017).
Over the years, he has received a long list of honors: the Golden Osella (1995), three Blue Ribbon Awards for Best Director (2004, 2005, 2009), the Asian Film Award for Best Director (2009), the Nikkan Sports Film Award for Best Director (2013), the Juzo Itami Award (2016), and, in 2018, the Palme d’Or and the Donostia Award. Next on his slate is 5 - The Time Called Arashi -, slated for 15 December 2026.
