Gundala Plot: What the Story Is About
At the centre of Gundala is Sancaka, a young man who has been fending for himself since childhood. After his parents disappeared from his life, he grew up on the streets, and those years taught him one survival rule: look out for yourself first and stay out of other people’s trouble.
But the world around him will not stay quiet. His city is sliding into deeper disorder, and injustice is spreading across the country. Ordinary people are increasingly pushed around with no one willing to stand up for them. Sancaka’s habit of keeping his head down starts to feel harder to justify.
The film builds its story around a single, pressing choice. Does Sancaka keep living the guarded life that has kept him alive so far? Or does he step forward for the people who are being trampled and become the protector they need? The film’s tagline, “This nation needs a patriot,” sums up the question hanging over him. The result is an origin story rooted in hardship rather than privilege, set against a society in crisis.
