Interstellar plot: what the story is about (no spoilers)
In a dystopian future, Earth is in trouble. Famine is spreading, crops are failing and humanity is running out of time on its home planet. Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) is a single father raising his children, including his sharp and curious daughter Murph, in a world that has largely given up on looking upward.
When Cooper crosses paths with what remains of NASA, he is drawn into a daring expedition. A wormhole has been discovered, and it offers a way to reach distant worlds that would otherwise be impossible to visit. Alongside the scientist Brand (Anne Hathaway) and a small crew, Cooper heads into deep space to search for a planet that could give mankind a future.
The mission comes at a heavy personal cost. Gravity and the strange physics of space bend time itself, so every decision the crew makes affects how much of life back home Cooper may miss. At its heart, Interstellar is a race against time and an emotional father-daughter story, set against the scale of the cosmos. The film’s tagline sums up its stakes: “Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here.”

What makes Interstellar notable

Genre and themes: The film blends adventure, drama and science fiction. Artificial intelligence, space stations and an expedition across unknown planets add to its ambitious, audacious tone.
Runtime: At 169 minutes, it is a long, immersive watch, best enjoyed on the biggest screen you can find.
