Shutter (2004) guide: Thai horror plot without spoilers, cast led by Ananda Everingham, 4K remaster release date in the Philippines and where to watch.

Shutter Plot: What the Film Is About (No Spoilers)

It starts with a drive home late at night on a dark road outside Bangkok. Tun, a young photographer, and his girlfriend Jane are in the car when it hits a girl standing on the road. In a moment of panic, they don’t stop to help. They drive off and try to act as if nothing happened.

The night doesn’t stay behind them. Tun returns to his work, shooting jobs and developing prints, and he begins to spot things in his photos that shouldn’t be there. Hazy white blurs, strange streaks of light and dim, shadowy shapes keep turning up across his pictures. At first they look like flaws in the film or the camera. Then they keep coming back.

Jane can’t shake her guilt, and she becomes convinced the images mean something. The couple begin to dig into what the camera seems to be catching. Tun is troubled by nightmares, and the pressure on both of them grows. Every clue they find leads to a more unsettling question. Shutter builds its scares from the simple idea in its tagline: the most frightening images may be the ones that are real.
