The Cat in the Hat (2026) Plot: What We Know So Far

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is bringing Dr. Seuss’s most famous troublemaker back to the big screen in an animated adventure. This time, the Cat (voiced by Bill Hader) faces an assignment that could cost him everything.

The story centers on two siblings, Gabby and Sebastian, who are struggling after their family moves to an unfamiliar town. Their mood is low, and the Cat’s job is to lift it. The catch is that this mischief-maker has a habit of going too far, and his reputation is on the line. If he can’t show he’s up to the task, he could lose the magical hat that makes him who he is.

Expect plenty of chaos along the way, including a talking fish named Waffles (Matt Berry). Based on the film’s official keywords, the tone leans lighthearted, whimsical and gleefully absurd, with the bond between the two siblings at its heart. The tagline sums up the spirit of the film: “The cat’s out of the bag.”
