The Medium (2021), the Thai folk horror film by Banjong Pisanthanakun: spoiler-free plot, cast, PH release date and where to watch in the Philippines.

The Medium (2021) Plot: A Spoiler-Free Synopsis

In rural Thailand, a film crew sets out to make a documentary about spirit mediums. Their cameras land on a family that has carried this calling for generations. Within this household, the role of the medium passes from one woman to the next. They believe a protective spirit chooses who will serve it. The crew wants to capture these traditions on camera, from the rituals and offerings to everyday life in a community where faith in unseen forces runs deep.

Things change when Mink, a young woman in the family, starts acting in ways that are strange, then troubling. Some relatives read her behaviour as a sign that the spirit has picked its next vessel. Others are far less certain. As the documentary keeps rolling, the explanations stop holding together. Rituals are prepared and old family tensions resurface. The line between belief and fear grows thinner with every scene.

Told in a faux-documentary, found-footage style, The Medium puts viewers right beside the camera crew as they record a situation that becomes harder and harder to explain. True to its tagline, “Every faith will be challenged.”
