V. Shantaram plot: what the biopic is about

V. Shantaram is an upcoming Hindi biographical drama about one of the most important figures in Indian film history. The film follows Shantaram Rajaram Vankudre, known to audiences as V. Shantaram, across a career that spanned three major turning points in cinema: the silent era, the arrival of sound and the move to colour.

The film is a story about filmmaking itself. It traces how a single creative life unfolded alongside the rapid technical changes of the medium. It also shows how Shantaram grew into a filmmaker whose influence on Indian cinema is still recognised today. Siddhant Chaturvedi takes on the title role, and Tamannaah Bhatia plays Jayashree, a key figure in the story.

Beyond the premise, the producers have not yet shared plot details. The full scope of the story, including which chapters of Shantaram’s life receive the most attention, will become clearer closer to release. For now, the core promise is a period drama tracing an artist’s journey through the decades that shaped modern Indian film.
