Verity Plot: What the Story Is About (No Spoilers)
Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) is a writer who gets an unusual job offer. Bestselling novelist Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) can no longer continue her popular book series, and Lowen is hired to ghostwrite the remaining titles in her place. To capture Verity’s voice, Lowen needs to study the author’s work and notes.
Among those materials, Lowen finds something she was never meant to read: Verity’s private, autobiographical writings. The pages are personal and unsettling, and they hint at hidden truths about the Crawford family, including Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett). Lowen cannot stop reading, and she soon finds herself questioning what is fiction, what is confession and whom she can trust.
The deeper she goes, the more dangerous her position becomes. A writing assignment turns into something far darker, with the possibility of a deadly conspiracy closing in around her. True to its tagline, “There is no light where we’re going,” Verity is a tense mystery about secrets, manipulation and the power of the written word.
