Wicker (2026) stars Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman who orders a husband made of wicker. Plot, cast, and Philippine cinema release date: November 4.

Wicker Plot: A Love Story Woven by Hand

In a seaside village in feudal times, Wicker follows a Fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who lives on the edge of town and at the very bottom of its pecking order. Her neighbours never tire of teasing her about her single status and the fishy smell that comes with her trade. Rather than keep waiting for a community that will never welcome her, she makes an unusual decision: she commissions a husband made entirely of wicker.

Her new partner, the Wicker Husband (Alexander Skarsgård), changes her lonely routine overnight. In a town that values tradition and loves gossip, the unlikely couple soon becomes the centre of attention. Envy creeps in among the villagers, whispers turn into scandal, and people who once ignored the Fisherwoman suddenly have strong opinions about her private life.

Mixing romance, fantasy and comedy, the film looks at loneliness, belonging and the courage it takes to love on your own terms, even when the people around you disapprove. The tagline sums up its playful tone: “Marriage material.”

Wicker review: what to expect. Because the film has only just opened internationally, this guide focuses on what viewers can expect rather than a verdict: an offbeat, adult-oriented fairy tale that pairs gentle comedy with themes of jealousy, ostracism and small-town judgment.
