Dark Matter plot: what the series is about
Dark Matter is an American sci-fi drama that asks a simple but unsettling question: what if the life you chose was only one of many you could have lived? Jason Dessen is a college physics professor in Chicago. He shares a settled, ordinary life with his wife, Daniela, and their teenage son, Charlie. It is comfortable, if not quite the brilliant career he once imagined.
That normal routine falls apart one night when Jason is taken against his will. He wakes up in a world that looks almost like his own, yet nothing fits. His home, his work and his relationships have all shifted into a version of reality where different choices were made. Jason becomes a fish out of water in his own city as he tries to understand what happened and how quantum physics could explain it.
His only goal is to find his way back to Daniela and Charlie. The greatest threat standing between him and his family is a doppelgänger. That rival is another version of Jason himself. The tagline sums it up neatly: “There’s no world like home.”
