Only for Love Plot: What the Series Is About
Only for Love (original title: 以爱为营) is a Chinese romantic drama with a light comedic touch, set in the competitive worlds of journalism and finance. At its centre is Zheng Shuyi, a sharp and hardworking reporter who wants a front-page story. Her target is Shi Yan, one of the most prominent figures in the financial industry, and an exclusive interview with him has been very hard to get.
Shuyi is known for reports built on careful research into different industries. Shi Yan is an investor who looks for start-ups that create social value, because he wants his work to benefit society. When a misunderstanding throws the two together, Shi Yan sees that Shuyi’s writing reflects many of his own values. That shared outlook leads him to give her access to his company for a series of reports.
The story follows a working relationship that starts on uncertain ground. Shuyi and Shi Yan are both ambitious and principled, and the drama explores how their careers become intertwined. It also shows how a connection forms between a reporter and the executive she set out to cover.
