Tulsa King plot: what the series is about
For a quarter of a century, Dwight “The General” Manfredi kept his mouth shut behind bars for the New York mob family he served as a capo. When he finally walks out of prison, he expects a reward. Instead, his bosses ship him off to Tulsa, Oklahoma, a city with no mafia footprint, and tell him to start operations there.
The move turns a seasoned East Coast gangster into a classic fish out of water, dropped into the American Midwest with old-school instincts and no backup. Dwight soon suspects that the family he protected for so long may not be looking out for him. Rather than wait for orders, he starts building something of his own, recruiting locals into a new crew and testing what a protection racket looks like far from Manhattan.
The series mixes crime, drama and comedy. Alongside the criminal schemes, it explores an aging man trying to repair broken family connections and prove he can still build an empire from scratch. Its tone leans into the neo-western: mob loyalty and betrayal set against wide Oklahoma horizons.
