Plot Summary: What Is Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender About?
Aang is the Avatar, and he is also the only Airbender left in the world. That makes him the last living link to an entire way of life, and the future of his people is at stake. When he hears of a power from the distant past, Aang sees a possible way to keep Airbender culture from disappearing altogether.
The search will not be simple. The power is old, its whereabouts are uncertain, and Aang is not the only one who wants it. If the wrong people reach it first, the world that he and his companions fought so hard to stabilise could be thrown back into chaos.
Aang does not set out alone. Katara, Sokka, Zuko and Toph join the journey, along with the sky bison Appa and the lemur Momo. Together they travel across the world in a race against time.
At its heart, the story is about identity, legacy and responsibility. It asks what one young hero owes to the people who came before him, a theme echoed in the film’s tagline: “The legacy reawakens.”
