Hope (2026) Plot Summary (No Spoilers)
Hope Harbor is an isolated village on the South Korean coast, and something is tearing it apart. Strange attacks have left residents frightened, and the job of finding out what is behind them falls to the local police chief, Go Bum-seok (Hwang Jung-min), and officer Lim Sung-ae (Hoyeon).
At first it looks like a hunt for a dangerous animal. Yet the deeper the two officers dig, the clearer it becomes that their early assumptions may be badly wrong. In Hope, misunderstanding is a threat in its own right. Each wrong judgement and each clash between frightened people pushes the situation further out of control. A local emergency gradually grows into a disaster far larger than one small community.
Writer-director Na Hong-jin combines science fiction, mystery and action in a story of villagers fighting to survive against an unknown entity. The film asks the question posed by its tagline: “Is this how it ends?”
