Peninsula (2020) guide: Yeon Sang-ho's zombie action-horror sequel starring Gang Dong-won. Plot summary, cast, release date and where to watch in the US.

Peninsula plot summary (no spoilers)

The Korean Peninsula has fallen. A zombie outbreak has turned the land into a lawless wasteland, and what was once home is now a ruined, hostile territory overrun by the infected. Into this landscape goes Han Jung-seok, a soldier played by Gang Dong-won, together with a team assigned to venture back inside.

The mission puts them face to face with relentless hordes of the undead and the dangers of a society that has collapsed. Along the way, the story brings in a wider group of characters, including Min-jung (Lee Jung-hyun), Joon-yi (Lee Re), Kim Noh-in (Kwon Hae-hyo), Sergeant Hwang (Kim Min-jae) and Captain Seo (Koo Kyo-hwan).

The film’s tagline sums up its stakes: “Escape the apocalypse.” Peninsula mixes horror with action, thriller and adventure. Its dystopian setting is a deserted, post-apocalyptic version of South Korea, and survival there means constant movement and danger. This summary covers only the opening premise, so it leaves the film’s surprises and outcomes for viewers to discover.
