Primetime (2026): plot summary, cast led by Robert Pattinson, release date and where to watch A24's true-story thriller about a 2000s TV sting show.

Primetime (2026) Plot Summary: No Spoilers

The year is 2006, and Chris Hansen (Robert Pattinson) is the face of To Catch a Predator. The network programme is built around hidden-camera stings in which men who arrange online to meet minors are confronted on air. The format has made Hansen a recognisable figure, and he wants more: higher ratings, bigger on-screen moments and an even bigger name.

Set across Florida, Texas and New York City, Primetime follows Hansen and the people around him as decoy operations are staged and each confrontation is shaped into compelling television. The boundary between public service and spectacle grows harder to see. After one sting spirals out of control, the polished persona Hansen has cultivated starts to crack. The film then examines what it costs to package justice as entertainment, for the people caught on camera, for those who produce the show and for the host himself, whose marriage is also under pressure.

This is a psychological drama-thriller drawn from real events and inspired by published reporting. It is less concerned with the mechanics of the stings than with the ambition and showmanship behind them.
