Shutter (2004): Thai horror about a photographer haunted by shadows after a hit-and-run. Plot summary, cast, release dates and where to watch in the US.

Shutter Plot Summary (No Spoilers)

Shutter (original Thai title: ชัตเตอร์ กดติดวิญญาณ) begins on a dark road outside Bangkok. Tun, a working photographer, and Jane are driving home when their car strikes a young woman. Panicked, they leave the scene without stopping to help, and they try to carry on with their lives as though nothing happened.

The pair cannot outrun what they did. When Tun develops his latest rolls of film, pale, blurred shapes start to appear in frames where nothing should be. At first he treats them as technical flaws, but the shadows keep coming back, and Jane becomes convinced they mean something. Sleepless nights and growing guilt push the two of them to look for an explanation behind the images. Their search pulls them into unsettling corners of their own past.

The film builds its scares around photography itself, from darkrooms and Polaroids to the idea that a camera might capture what the eye misses. The result is a slow-tightening mystery about guilt, memory and the things people try to leave behind.
