Plot Summary: What Is The People Under the Stairs About?

Every street has a house that children dare each other to approach. In Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs, that house belongs to a reclusive couple who also own property in a struggling neighbourhood, where tenants feel squeezed by a greedy landlord.

A boy nicknamed Fool (Brandon Quintin Adams), whose family is facing hard times, gets drawn into a break-in at the couple’s heavily secured home along with the hardened Leroy (Ving Rhames). What looks like a quick job turns into a nightmare. The doors lock behind him, a guard dog prowls the halls, and the pair known only as Man and Woman (Everett McGill and Wendy Robie) prove far more dangerous than anyone in the neighbourhood suspected.

Trapped inside, Fool soon realises that the house holds more than its owners. Something lives deep within the walls. A frightened girl named Alice (A. J. Langer) may be his only ally. To get out, Fool has to rely on nerve, wits and a little luck.
