V/H/S/2 (2013) guide: spoiler-free plot summary, cast, directors, US release dates and where to stream, rent or buy this found-footage horror anthology.

V/H/S/2 Plot Summary (No Spoilers)

V/H/S/2 is a horror anthology built around a stack of old videotapes. Analogue recordings serve as the doorway into a chain of separate stories. Each one is presented as found footage: raw, handheld and apparently captured by the people caught up in it. The tagline asks “Who’s tracking you?”, and that idea of being recorded, watched and followed runs through the whole collection.

The film is made up of linked segments, including “Tape 49”, “Phase I Clinical Trials” and “Safe Haven”. Each segment has its own characters, setting and style of terror. In “Tape 49” you meet figures such as Larry and Ayesha. “Phase I Clinical Trials” centres on Herman, Clarissa and Dr. Fleischer. “Safe Haven” follows Lena and Adam into Indonesian-language territory.

Across the anthology, the threats range widely, from zombies to alien abduction. Many scenes contain graphic gore. The grainy VHS texture holds everything together, turning the outdated format into something unsettling. As a sequel to V/H/S, it keeps the same basic premise: watch the tapes, and see what is waiting on them.
