Verity plot summary (no spoilers)
Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) is a writer who takes on an unusual assignment: ghostwriting for Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), a best-selling novelist with a famous name. The job draws Lowen into Verity’s world. While working, she discovers a set of autobiographical notes written by Verity herself.
Those pages become the heart of the story. The more Lowen reads, the harder it is to separate fiction from confession. She finds herself caught up in something that may be far more dangerous than a publishing contract, and it could even be lethal. Josh Hartnett plays Jeremy Crawford, one of the figures whose place in this hidden history becomes central to the suspense.
The tagline, “There is no light where we’re going,” sets the mood. This is a dark, secretive story about authorship, truth and the stories people tell about themselves. Verity is adapted from a novel. It sits between psychological thriller and erotic thriller and builds its tension around what is written down and what is kept hidden.
