Whalefall Plot Summary (No Spoilers)
The central coast of California sets the stage for this tense survival thriller. Jay Gardiner, a young scuba diver played by Austin Abrams, is coping with the loss of his father. He heads beneath the waves on a deeply personal mission: to recover what remains of him.
The dive goes catastrophically wrong when a colossal sperm whale swallows Jay whole. Now he is sealed inside the animal’s stomach, cut off from the surface, with a tank holding roughly sixty minutes of air. Every breath brings him closer to running out.
With the clock ticking, Jay must think his way out of an impossible situation. In the darkness, he begins to realise that the tough lessons his father drilled into him, which once seemed harsh or pointless, might now be the only tools he has to survive. Part creature-feature nightmare and part family drama, the story turns a race against time into a reckoning with grief, memory and the bond between a son and his father. The tagline sums up the mood: “Hold your breath.”
