Wicker (2026) stars Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman who orders a husband woven from wicker. Plot, cast, R rating and US cinema release date on 23 October.

Wicker Plot Summary (No Spoilers)

At the edge of a seaside village, far from the respectable households that look down on her, a fisherwoman lives alone. Her neighbours have long treated her as a joke, and years of sneers and gossip have worn her patience thin. Instead of waiting for the village to accept her, she settles the question of companionship on her own terms. She commissions a husband woven entirely from wicker.

The arrangement might have stayed a private eccentricity, but this is a tight-knit, tradition-bound community where everyone watches everyone else. A woman openly devoted to a man made of reeds is more than her rigid neighbours can stand. Some are scandalised. Others are quietly envious. Before long the unlikely couple has thrown the whole village into turmoil.

Set against a feudal-era backdrop, Wicker uses its fairy-tale premise to explore loneliness, ostracism, jealousy and the search for love. It approaches these themes through a mix of romance, fantasy and comedy. The tagline, “Marriage material.”, hints at the film’s playful tone.
