Your Name. Plot Summary (No Spoilers)
Two Japanese teenagers, Mitsuha Miyamizu and Taki Tachibana, have never met. They live far apart and have nothing in common beyond being high school students. Then, without warning, they start waking up in each other’s bodies.
The swaps arrive at random and seem bound up with their dreams. Each time, one of them must get through a day in a stranger’s life, among unfamiliar classmates, family and routines, while the other does the same in theirs. When they return to themselves, they find the confusion the other has left behind.
With no way to stop the switches, the two are forced to adapt and shape their days around someone they know only through these strange exchanges. What begins as bewildering and disruptive slowly becomes a connection neither expected. One question keeps growing: who exactly is the person on the other side, and is there any chance they could ever meet?
Makoto Shinkai wrote and directed the film. It combines coming-of-age romance, drama and supernatural fantasy into a 106-minute animated feature about distance, fate and identity.
