The Uncanny Counter (2020) guide: Korean supernatural action drama about noodle-shop demon hunters. Plot, cast, episodes and where to watch it on Netflix.

The Uncanny Counter plot summary

The Uncanny Counter (original title: 경이로운 소문) is a South Korean supernatural series built around an unusual double life. On the surface, a modest noodle restaurant serves ordinary customers. Behind the counter, its staff are “Counters”: demon hunters who each carry a distinct special power and whose real work is tracking down evil spirits that prey on the living.

The story centres on So Mun, played by Cho Byeong-kyu, a young man shaped by the loss of his parents and the painful experiences of his youth. His path crosses with this odd team of spirit hunters, pulling him into a hidden conflict between the world of the living and what lies beyond it. The show’s tagline sums up the tone neatly: “We sell noodles and catch evil spirits!”

What follows mixes supernatural action and mystery with grounded drama. Themes of grief, found family, school bullying and the afterlife sit alongside the monster-hunting set pieces. The result is a story that balances bursts of combat with humour and the everyday warmth of the restaurant crew.
